The role of the Diocesan Spiritual Advisor:
- The spiritual advisor, in cooperation with the chairperson of spiritual development, shall provide advice and guidance for the spiritual program.
- The spiritual advisor shall receive due notice of all executive and council meetings and conventions and shall attend and participate in all such meetings and conventions, when possible, in an advisory capacity.
- At diocesan level, the spiritual advisor shall receive due notice of the diocesan administrative committee meetings and shall attend and participate when possible.
Father Trevor Scarfone.
Father Trevor was born in February 1967 of Ken and Sheila Scarfone (deceased August 1992). He is the oldest of three children. His brother lives in Ottawa and works in one of the ministries of the federal government in Gatineau, Quebec. His sister is married and has a son (11) and daughter (6). Their family lives in Ohio, U.S.A. and owns a garden nursery.
Growing up in Sault Ste. Marie, he attended St. Ann elementary school and St. Mary’s College, a local Catholic boy’s high school. He then went to the University of Western Ontario in London where after three years he attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1989. He entered St. Peter’s Seminary and after three years received a Masters of Divinity. In August of 1992 Father Trevor was ordained to the diaconate in St. Veronica’s Parish, one of the two parishes in Sault Ste. Marie, where he spent his internship. After another year of studies, he was ordained to the priesthood in Blessed Sacrament, Sault Ste. Marie in May of 1994. Since his ordination, he has served in all three sectors; English, French and Native, of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie. Father Trevor has been the associate pastor in St. Andrew’s and the pastor in St. Anthony of Padua, Sudbury, Holy Name of Jesus, North Bay and St. Alphonsus Liguori, Callander, St. Monica’s, Wawa and St. Francis Regis, Pic Mobert First Nation, Our Lady of Sorrows, Sturgeon Falls and Holy Spirit, Garden Village First Nation, St Gregory Parish, Sault Ste. Marie and is presently serving in Holy Name of Jesus and St. Alphonsus Liguori.
Having served in many parishes, he has been the Spiritual Advisor in many Catholic Women’s League councils. He was appointed as the Diocesan Spiritual Advisor in 2011 and presently fulfilling a five year commitment. Father Trevor is also part of the Daughters of Isabella. In the fall of 1994, he was asked to become chaplain of Marion Circle 908, Sudbury, and subsequently became Trillium-Ontario State Chaplain in 1995. He was elected in his present position as President of the Chaplains Committee in 2006. In 2010, Father Trevor transferred to become Chaplain of St. Michael the Archangel Circle, 1302, Sault Ste. Marie and is presently the chaplain of Our Lady of Lourdes Circle 1050, Penetaguishene.
Father Trevor has really enjoyed his many years serving in the variety of parishes he has been assigned to across the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie, as Spiritual Advisor in the Catholic Women’s League and as chaplain in the Daughters of Isabella. Meeting a variety of people and priests, he has come to the realization that we all can live our faith no matter where we are called to minster.
