Spiritual Advisor: S. Pat Carter, csj

Sister Pat Carter is a 25 year member of the CWL council of St. Jerome’s in  Sault Ste. Marie.  She has served as her council’s secretary for five years, during the pandemic time, and is the membership convenor for the last year and a half.

She has been the regional spiritual convenor since 2017 and has been the regional treasurer for the last two years.

She worked as a teacher for the Catholic school board until she retired in 2024 and now does justice work for her CSJ congregation.

Pat loves to write letters to family, friends and CWL members, writing about 40-50 cards/month.  She loves to read and watch films, especially those connected to justice themes.

Chairperson: Sandy Punch

Sandy Punch has been a C.W.L member for 43 years at St. Jerome Parish. She has children and 3 grandchildren who fortunately also live in the Soo.

Sandy has worn many “hats” of the league, including President for 10 years, Spiritual Chair, Organization Chair, and Vice President. She has served and chaired many fundraisers for her council and has volunteered over 45 years to parish events.

Sandy owns a catering business which she has retired from 3 times, ha-ha. Many of you have eaten the food at regional luncheons, and workshops.

Sandy loves to travel and spend the winters in Florida and the Caribbean. She always makes sure she is back for convention in May.

She looks forward to this new endeavor and hopes to meet each and every one of you in her next two years as Regional Chair.

Sudbury Region

Spiritual Advisor: Maria Santoro

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

Maria is a retired educator from the Sudbury Catholic District School Board where she worked for 34 years.

She has been a member of the League for 24 years. The Valentine Tea’s knitting table has been my only area of service in the CWL.

Thirty years ago, Maria was mandated into Diocesan Order of Women as a DOW (now called Diocesan Order of Service). At Our Lady of Hope, she has served in a variety of ministries. Presently, she is the Chair of the Liturgy Committee and head the Funeral Team.

Maria has taken the quote from Mark as it speaks to how she strives to live her life. She looks forward to her next journey as Regional Spiritual Advisor with a little trepidation. Maria is confident that her sisters in the League will support her. You are always in her prayers and hope that you will keep Maria in your prayers.

North Bay Region

Spiritual Advisor: Ruth Godon

Ruth grew up in Sudbury with two parents and nine siblings. She attended  Marymount College in Sudbury. She worked in the library at St. Joseph’s College, North Bay. And graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in North Bay in 1973.

Ruth is a retired Registered Nurse. Most of her work was in Medicine and Surgery, however  she did work in Obstetrics, Delivery, Nursery, Pediatrics, Chronic and Long-term Care, Coronary Care, ICU, Emergency and done hospital night supervision. Ruth has gone on Air Ambulance transfers and dispatched land ambulances. Towards the end of her career, she was doing  some Palliative Care.

Ruth has lived among the Sisters of St. Joseph for over 13 years under temporary vows. She is single. And is an Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph and member of the North Bay Core Team as well the CSJ Federation.

She has volunteered on the L’Arche Board in North Bay; as well as a committee member of Faith Speaks Out, North Bay (Working with Domestic Violence).

Ruth is a member of the Compassionate Committee for the Homeless in North Bay.

She is a member of the Catholic Women’s League and have worked on the executive at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption.  At present, she is the Faith Chairperson for her parish council.

Ruth is a member of the Diocesan Order of Women (D.O.W.)  and work on staff at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption.

Chairperson: Mary Lynn Truchon

Mary-Lynn is a lifelong resident of North Bay and a graduate of St. Joseph’s College and St. Mary’s Commercial Academy. She is a retired administrative professional, having served forty plus years in the profession she loved. This was demonstrated when serving as charter vice-president and subsequently, treasurer and president of the North Bay Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals. She is a lifelong parishioner of the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption Parish and her adoption at birth was pre-arranged through the Parish Priest at the time, Msgr. Humphrey.

She has been a CWL member for forty-three years serving on the executive in the 80's for several years. She also served several years on Parish Council and helped with various annual Bazaar committees as well as co-convening the Bazaar.  Retirement allowed time to be more deeply involved and this has included chairing the Knitting, Sewing and Craft Table for the annual bazaar for over 20 years, volunteering on a parish funeral luncheon team, as captain. Council Executive positions have included Resolutions and Legislation, Recording Secretary, Membership and Organization, then President (total 5 years) and Past President.  At the Regional level, she served as Secretary/Treasurer, Secretary, and Chairperson. Currently, she is once again embracing the position of North Bay Regional Chair for the 2026-2028 term.

Her daughter and husband live in Sudbury, now both retired, and she has three adult grandchildren, also in Sudbury, whom she is extremely proud of. And bringing much happiness to her life are seven awesome “little people,” her great grandchildren! She feels very blessed that her life also includes extended family of 4 adults and 6 grandchildren of husband Ron, who passed away in August 2021.  She loves reading, cooking and puts a great value on her family and wonderful circle of friends, many who are CWL sisters.
