Chairperson: Marlene Sawko

I was gifted a CWL membership at Easter 36 years ago when I became Catholic. I have been a member
ever since at St. Jerome Parish in the Sault. I have served on my council executive wherever needed
and at the Diocesan Executive level as well in communications and as secretary. I’m excited to be
serving at the Diocesan level again as the Sault Ste. Marie Regional Chair.
I am a true northerner having grown up in Kirkland Lake. I went to university in Hamilton where I met
my husband and we married there in 1975. Our jobs brought us to the Sault in 1978 and here we
remain. I retired several years ago after long time employment with the Ontario Government. I have
three children and consider myself fortunate that 2 of them live here with their families. My eldest lives
in Brockville and I travel there frequently. I have 7 grandchildren and I love spending time with them.
My husband and I were married 44 years when he passed away in 2019.
I am a voracious reader. I subscribe to two book clubs at our library and feel a bit panicky if I don’t
have something to read. I love British and Scandinavian television shows. I play golf so badly I often
wonder why I play. I belong to a ladies bocce league during the winter. I love to travel. I love the
Toronto Blue Jays. I love exploring my Scottish roots. I love the League and all it stands for.

» Spiritual Advisor: Michele McGuire

Spiritual Advisor: Michele McGuire

Michele McGuire and her husband Patrick have been married 47 years and were blessed with four children. Raising her children and working part time, outside of the home, allowed her to devote time to church ministries. Michele volunteered and took on leadership roles in youth, music and liturgical ministries for over 40 years. Presently, Michele leads an interfaith bible study group, in its 8th year; is President of the Board for the Pregnancy Care Centre and Infant Food Bank in Sudbury with over 10 years volunteering in different roles; is an Associate member of the Sisters of St. Joseph for 14 years) and Core Team member; a new member of the CWL and a member of Holy Redeemer Church.
Michele shared that being in relationship with God through prayer is a way to nourish that relationship and to grow in faith. She looks forward to journeying together, discerning and affirming God’s call to use the many gifts the members bring to this important ministry. We are the hands and feet of Jesus; His work cannot be done without our help. Through prayer we hear God’s voice, challenging us to do His work and allows us to respond “Here I am Lord, send me”.

Chairperson: Annette Dutrisac

I am from a family of Service of God and Country, as my Father served in various campaigns during the 2nd World War, and both my parents were servants of God all their Lives. I follow in their footsteps. My mother until she died, was a member of The League for over 60 years. Now, my daughter and 2 granddaughters are members. At one point we had 3 generations in the League.

I am now reaching 30 years membership.  In those years I served in various roles on the Executive, most recent role was President of the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption Council in North Bay.  I became more active in the League after retirement from the Ontario Justice Ministry as a courtroom Clerk for over 30 years. I also raised 2 children as a working mother. I am currently Past President; although I have begun my duties in that role, some are on hold, as I am assisting the current President and involved in acquainting other executive members with Ceremonies, etc. I have become part of their teams, to support and guide, as many are new to the League

I was married in 1965, and my husband George and I, raised 2 children, and now are grandma and grandpa to 4 grandchildren and great-grandma and great-grandpa to 1 great-grandchild. So in love with the little fellow, only 2 months old!  George and I will be celebrating 59 years of marriage in September. We plan to celebrate 60 next year,  God willing!

In our Parish, I represent the CWL on Parish Council and am a member of the Parish Fundraising Team, planning and carrying out fundraising events.  As to Ministry, I am a Lector, Lay Minister of the Eucharist in Senior residences and the Regional Hospital, and generally other matters as they arise.

I look forward to service as Regional Chair and to joining the Diocesan Council, working with old and making new friends in this wonderful world of Sisterhood.
